The biggest question, asked in your own song

There are two ways to build a song into a proposal. The first: the song plays while you ask. Your story fills the room, your partner recognises the first date, then the phrase only the two of you use, and slowly works out what is happening. By the time you ask, the music has already prepared the moment. The second way takes more nerve: the final line of the song asks the question itself. For two or three minutes the song tells how two strangers became the two of you, and it ends on the words everything has been leading to. You go down on one knee while they are sung. All you need to do is tell us in the questionnaire that the question belongs in the song. The lyrics take care of the rest.

For that to land, the song needs your real story. In the questionnaire you spend around ten minutes describing how you met, the moments that shaped you and the details your partner will recognise straight away. Sven Pflüger, a musician based in Freiburg, writes the lyrics from your answers, every line by hand. Then comes a modern production, and every finished recording is listened through before delivery. The result sounds like the two of you: your names are sung, the place you met turns up in a verse, and so do the stories nobody else would understand. That recognition is what makes a proposal song work. Your partner listens, understands piece by piece what is going on, and is sitting in the middle of your own love story when the question arrives.

Take the logistics as seriously as the lyrics. A phone speaker disappears on a windy bridge; bring a small Bluetooth speaker or let the restaurant in on the plan so the song comes through their system at the right moment. Decide in advance who presses play: you, a friend who is in on it, or the waiter after dessert. Time is on your side too. Depending on the package, the song is ready in 24 to 72 hours; a week or two of lead time still gives you room to listen properly and have a line adjusted with the Lieblingslied or Meisterstück. And if the engagement has already happened: the song works just as well as an engagement gift, telling the story right up to the yes. Either way, it stays secret. The order runs through you alone, the finished song arrives as a download with its own song page, and nobody else hears a thing.
